What is Jeera Kokam? The Kinu flavour explained
Jeera Kokam is a tangy, lightly salted fruit beverage flavoured with cumin. Kokam is a sour fruit from India’s western coast, used in Konkan, Maharashtrian and Gujarati cooking and drinks. Jeera is cumin. Kinu Jeera Kokam is sold in the 150 ml bottle.
What is in Kinu Jeera Kokam?
Water, sugar, kokam aagal (3.99%), salt, cumin powder, an antioxidant (INS 300), a colour (INS 122), an acidity regulator (INS 330), pectin (INS 440), a preservative (INS 202) and added flavours (nature-identical and artificial flavouring substances).
What is kokam aagal?
Aagal is the salted liquid extracted from kokam rind. It gives the drink its sour, savoury character. Salt also appears on the ingredients list as an ingredient in its own right.
Does it contain sugar?
Yes. Sugar is the second ingredient, as in every Kinu flavour. This is a sweet-sour drink with a savoury edge, not a sugar-free one.
How do I serve it?
Serve it well chilled, over ice, with a mint leaf or a squeeze of lime. It also works as a mixer with plain soda water if you prefer a lighter, fizzy glass.
