Is Kinu fruit juice? Fruit beverage and fruit juice explained
No. Kinu is a ready-to-serve fruit beverage, not 100% fruit juice. It is made with fruit pulp or crush, water, sugar and the other ingredients printed on the pack. The fruit percentage on the label tells you how much fruit each flavour contains.
What is a ready-to-serve fruit beverage?
A ready-to-serve (RTS) beverage is ready to drink as sold. You do not add water to it, unlike a squash or syrup that you dilute at home. A fruit beverage is a recipe in which fruit is one ingredient among several.
How much fruit is in each Kinu flavour?
- Mango: mango pulp 12%
- Red Guava: guava pulp 10%
- Pineapple: pineapple pulp 10%
- Orange: orange pulp 3.33%
- Litchi: litchi crush 3%
- Jeera Kokam: kokam aagal 3.99%
The rest of each drink is water, sugar and the other ingredients listed on the pack and on each product page. See the full list on Kinu facts.
Why do Indian packs no longer say “100% fruit juice”?
On 3 June 2024, FSSAI directed food businesses to remove any claim of “100% fruit juice” from the labels and advertisements of reconstituted fruit juices. It said there is no provision for a 100 per cent claim under the advertising and claims rules (report by All India Radio). Kinu is not sold as juice and makes no such claim.
